How to Determine the Hand or Handing of a Door

I want to order a new prehung door. How do I tell if I need a left-hand or right hand door?

Ah, all your questions should be this easy!  Visualize yourself walking through the door. If the door will swing outward to the left, then it is a left-hand door. If it swings out to the right, it is a right-hand door.

Or just look at the pictures below!!

Above is a left-hand door.

Above is a right-hand door.

For the sake of clarity, both examples above are for an exterior door. With an exterior door (should you need one), you must indicate that the door is "in-swinging". So the top image is a left-hand in-swinging door... the bottom is a right-hand in-swinging door.
