Furniture Repair, Modification and Improvement Q&A

Be sure to scroll down... there may be more than one question on this page!

Dear NH,

Can you give me any hints about judging the weight bearing ability of furniture casters? My local super-hardware-appliance-tree-mulch-glue-paint-phone-lamp-etc outlet has a variety and the boxes list diameter and load rating but the boxes look as if they have been refilled at random from other boxes. I know that bolts and such have a `secret code' stamped on the head to tell strength. The casters don't even seem to have model numbers. I want to build some specialty carts to handle heavy loads. The load bearing ability is pretty important to me.

Unless the casters are "blister packed" with load capacities clearly labeled, you are sunk! Try Mapp Caster... you can order online and get precisely the caster you need at a reasonable price.
