Home Inspection, Building Code and Permit Information

American Home Inspector Directory

The American Home Inspector Directory is one of the first home inspection websites to offer home inspectors from all home inspection organizations.  All of AHID's members agree to conduct their home inspections according to their organizations "Standards of Practice & Code of Ethics".

Codecheck

Used by thousands of building inspectors every day, Code Check is an easy to use spiral ring reference book that covers building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing codes. With copious drawings and tables, it is a wonderful tool for the professional home inspector, the homeowner, or contractor to evaluate both new and old work for code compliance.

The Code Check web site features one of the best collections of building code links on the Internet, painstakingly organized by Redwood Kardon, a professional building inspector and author. His purpose... to act as a resource for pros and amateurs alike who need up to date code information. And, of course, to sell his books!  (You may purchase this book through the Natural Handyman Bookshop. )

Coyle Inspection Engineers, Inc.

With over 9000 professional inspections under their belt, Coyle Inspection Engineers, Inc. offers their clients a strong engineering background making their inspections more complete than non-engineer inspection services.  Their site offers probing articles on the today's hot inspection topics... lead, asbestos and aluminum wiring to name a few.  They also have a fine newsletter... visit http://www.coyle-inspect.com/inspectiontechnology.htm to sign up!

Home Inspection Supersite

Home Inspection Supersite from Inspectamerica Engineering offers a wide range of information and services to homeowners. Besides having a home inspector locator, they feature helpful articles on concerns for first-time homebuyers, the top ten home problems and more. This site also offers training for men and women looking for a career in home inspection.

National Fire Protection Association

NFPA is the home of the uniform codes for electrical, fire safety and mechanical (HVAC) work. They are also working on a uniform building code. It's about time! Interesting site with a surfeit of code and safety-related manuals. Access to all their documents with membership, or you can purchase manuals online.

NACHI

The National Association of Certified Home Inspectors (NACHI) is the only association of its kind requiring an entrance examination for all members!  NACHI-certified inspectors ascribe to their rigid code of ethics and have access to the most modern educational resources to keep abreast of the latest issues and technology.  If your inspector is not NACHI-certified, perhaps you should keep on looking!  Visit their site for top-quality inspector referrals for your area!!

NJ Permits.com

NJ Permits is a specialized site offering help to New Jersey homeowners, landlords and contractors navigate the treacherous waters of the building permit process!  Forms are available online and the service is currently free to homeowners!
