How Your House Works is not a home repair book. Rather, it is a very thorough and understandable visual overview of all the major and minor components of a home. It discusses the major systems, such as water, heat, and electricity, as well as the finishing touches such as carpet, tile, countertops, and general home safety.
One thing this book does especially well is put a name to the doo-dads and thingamabobs throughout your home, via its extensive use of graphics. Just think how nice it would be to talk to a contractor and actually be able to communicate with the proper names of your home's various components.
